This er* Mould represent a valuable addition to the armamentarium of the physician for the management of cases such as those of congestive heart failure and hypertension in which the retention of sodium leads to oedema. In the past such cases have been treated chiefly with mercurial diuretics and by severe restriction of salt intake. A cation exchange resin 'Resodec' manufactured by Smith, Kline and French Laboratories, New York, was sent to this Laboratory for examination. The chemical properties and the physiological action of this resin have been studied in detail. The present paper embodies the results of such a study. 'Resodec' is an inert, wholly insoluble carboxylic cation exchange resin. This is a weak organic acid having the property of binding cations at a pH of 5 and above, the binding capacity increasing with the pH. The pH range below the duodenum is very favourable for the binding action of the resin. The cations are removed from the body, attached to the resin, with the feces. Technically, 'Resodec' is designated as the ammonium and potassium form of a crosselinked poly-acrylic cation exchange resin of high molecular weight. The carboxyl radicals serve as the free valencies for ion exchange. The structural formula of resins used in 'R,esodec' are reproduced below:

Efficiency of lead removal from drinking water using cationic resin Purolite
Background: Today, issues such as water shortage, difficulties and costs related to supplying safe water, and anomalous concentrations of heavy metals in groundwater and surface water resources, doubled the necessity of access to technical methods on removing these pollutants from water resources. Methods: In this lab study, cationic resin Purolite S-930 (with co-polymer styrene di-vinyl benzen...

As part of the development of equipment and innovative technology for the process flow-sheet, a study on the selection of good resin for uranium uptake is ongoing. Both static and dynamic column equilibrium testing upon synthetic and Gattar pregnant leach solutions (PLS) were carried out to estimate the change of total capacity and breakthrough capacity of the commercial macroporous anion excha...
متن کاملThe Determination of Total Base of Serum by Ion Exchange Reactions of Synthetic Resins
Measurement of total base of blood serum supplies information indispensable for the complete description of the electrolyte balance in many physiological and pathological states. Older methods involving separate analyses of the principal cations or their conversion to sulfates, with subsequent determination of sulfate, were time-consuming, while the latter was of doubtful accuracy. More recentl...

A most effective and less energy demanding method of producing fatty esters, diol esters, by esterifying fatty acids, with neopentyl and ethylenglycol alcohols in the presence of an acidic ion exchange resin catalyst(polyestyrendivinylbenzensulfated) was investigated at elevated temperature. In this process an azeotroping agent, toluene, was used to facilitate continuous removal of water by dis...
